Michael grew up in country New South Wales with a love of both academic and sporting pursuits. When Michael left Wagga to attend university in Sydney he was an accomplished swimmer and runner. He was also umpiring AFL football at reserve grade level and was awarded a scholarship to study information technology at the University of New South Wales. By the time he completed his university studies, he was umpiring AFL football at the highest level, competing at an elite level in triathlon and was accepted into a graduate program with a leading consulting firm.
Michael has over 15 years of experience across the system development life cycles spectrum. With the nature of his sporting commitments, his aim was to ensure that you gain experience in Systems analysis, design, development, testing and implementation. By doing this he insured that when his sporting commitments were less time-consuming by his mid-30s, he was well positioned to take on more senior roles in organisations. As a result, when he made the decision to take on these roles he was quickly elevated to executive level in organisations. Unfortunately, in 2008 Michael fell victim to a road accident which curtailed his working career. He was however insured at the time of the accident.
AFL Umpire and Triathlete
Michael umpired at the highest level during the late 1990s. He retired from umpiring football in 1999 to pursue triathlons professionally. He competed professionally for the next eight years including representing Australia at the world championships in 2002 and 2003.
The Accident and Rehabilitation
In mid-2008 Michael was the victim of a traffic accident whilst training for the state time trial Championships in cycling. He was struck on the right-hand side by a passing truck on beach Road in Brighton, Victoria. He was ricocheted into the back of a parked four-wheel-drive which broke his cervical spine (neck) at the fourth vertebrae. The long road of recovery and rehabilitation has taken Michael from being ventilated and fed by nasal gastric tube to not only eating and breathing for himself but walking with the aid of crutches.
Retraining in Marketing
Michael had to find a new career acknowledging that it would not be impossible to work with the same energy in his IT career as before. He has completed some marketing courses that complement his IT training and experience to focus on helping your small business proficient in the art of maximising the use of your website and social media for marketing purposes.
